How it works

Where the date calculator counts calendar days, this one measures clock time between two precise moments — a flight plus a layover, a render job, a hospital stay, a road trip with stops removed elsewhere. The headline breaks the span into days, hours and minutes; the panel also gives the flat totals in hours, minutes and seconds.

Times are read in your own time zone, the one your device is set to, so a span that crosses a daylight-saving change measures real elapsed hours, not wall-clock arithmetic.

The method

Both moments are converted to absolute timestamps in your local zone and subtracted; the difference is then expressed in days/hours/minutes and as decimal totals. Because real timestamps are used, a spring-forward weekend correctly measures one hour shorter than the clock faces suggest.

Check important dates twice. Every result here is worked out from the values you enter and the calendar, clock and counting conventions described on the page. Date and time answers can depend on time zones and daylight-saving rules, and counting tools follow the definitions printed with them. For deadlines, filings, payroll or anything with money attached, confirm the figure against an authoritative source.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my spring weekend 47 hours instead of 48?

Daylight saving. When clocks jump forward, that hour genuinely does not exist locally, so the elapsed time between two local moments is one hour less. The calculator measures real elapsed time.

Can I measure across time zones?

Enter both moments as local times in the zone you are standing in. For converting a single moment between zones, use the time zone converter instead.

What if the end is earlier than the start?

The panel says so rather than inventing a negative duration. Swap the two moments for the positive span.
